History and New Jersey Transportation Heritage Sketch

By the mid-1960s, the 35 foot intercity or parlor coach was becoming obsolete and being replaced with the 40 foot coach. #W608 was one of Public Services last 35 foot single deck parlor coaches and was part of an order of five coaches with 38 seats and a lavatory. Intercity, another New Jersey motor carrier, also had a few 4106 parlor coaches. The W600 series were also the last PS coach to feature drumhead signs on the rear panel. These 35 foot coaches were considered high performance as they were equipped with Detroit Diesel 8V-71 engines.
